Now a commercial meeting space in the Historic Sweet Auburn District, Haugabrooks Funeral Home began as the brainchild of Spelman College alumna Geneva Haugabrooks. With just $300, Haugabrooks established Haugabrooks Funeral Home on Auburn Avenue in 1929. Her venture turned into a million-dollar business and was in operation for nearly a century. Haugabrooks invested her time and some of the profits from the funeral home and other business ventures back into the community, earning the nickname “Mama Haugabrooks” for her philanthropy and community leadership.
