Comedy and Conversations

Reconstructing Reconstruction

After Hours
Thursday, Jun 27 2024 @ 7:30pm

Online advance tickets are sold out, but a limited number of walk-up tickets will be available at the door.

Comedy and Conversations is a program created by Munir Meghjani and David Perdue (not that one) that uses humor to shine a light on serious or underexplored topics. They recruit talented local comedians and subject matter experts to share their knowledge with you—and maybe make you laugh along the way.

Atlanta History Center is partnering with the program to host a night about one of the least understood eras of our state's history: Reconstruction. We will hear from some funny comedians, discuss what you were (or weren’t!) taught in school, and learn how to navigate historical bias.

This program is part of Atlanta History Center’s celebration of the Civic Season, a nationwide initiative encouraging historically informed civic participation through a two-week activation between Juneteenth and July 4th.

Additional Information

Presidential Debate and Traffic Warning: CNN is hosting the first presidential debate at 9:00 pm the same night, near our Midtown campus. While this will not affect our event, this could lead to some traffic delays. We recommend that you leave ample time for your arrival. For more information on lane closures, we recommend this article.

Location: This event will be located in Commercial Row on our Midtown campus, 979 Crescent Ave NE, Atlanta, GA 30309. Attendees will enter through the Margaret Mitchell House’s Crescent Avenue entrance.

Start time: Doors will open at 6:30 pm, and the event will start at 7:30 pm. We will have bar service available throughout the night.

Parking: As our Midtown campus has limited parking, we recommend taking MARTA to the Midtown station, which is a convenient block away from the Margaret Mitchell House. There are also paid parking decks nearby at 999 Peachtree Street and 930 Juniper Street, though Atlanta History Center does not own these spaces and cannot guarantee their capacity.
