Adult Group Experiences

History happens everyday! And that’s a lot of history to tell. So set your own pace and enjoy learning about all things Atlanta history as you stroll through our exhibitions, gardens, and historic houses. 

For groups of 10 or more, self-guided tours allow groups the opportunity to spend as little or as much time as they like on our 33-acre campus. Audio tours of Turning Point: The American Civil War are available at admissions.

Behind the Scenes: Collections Tour

Want to see even more of Atlanta’s history? Experience the rare opportunity to venture to our museum and textile collections storage to see—and, even handle—artifacts that might not ever go on display in an exhibition! Our knowledgeable staff will walk you through collections not on view to the public and share with you what we collect and how we care for and store our collection of more than 50,000 artifacts.

Behind the Scenes: Swan House Tour

Fascinated by secret spaces and new places? Ever wondered what’s behind those closed doors? This special 45 minute tour offers the opportunity to explore rooms not open on the regular house experience. Peek in basement rooms, explore attics, and see special collections spaces. This tour includes walking around the house and climbing three flights of steps. Guests must be 13 years or older.

Goizueta Gardens Exploration

Atlanta History Center is home to 22 acres of beautiful, undisturbed tranquil gardens and trails; featuring six distinct gardens that showcase the horticultural history of the Atlanta region. Take a glimpse into some of Georgia’s most rare and beautiful plants as you follow one of our living collections curators on a personalized tour of the historic gardens throughout our campus.

With this special group tour combo package, once you’ve learned all about Atlanta’s history on our main Buckhead campus, be sure to head just a few miles down Peachtree Street to trace the footsteps of famed writer, playwright and philanthropist Margaret Mitchell. Your Margaret Mitchell House experience includes a guided tour of the apartment where she wrote her Pulitzer-Prize winning novel Gone With the Wind, as well as the exploration of multiple exhibitions about the author’s life, the novel, the film and the city of Atlanta.

Atlanta History Center is a Bank of America’s Museums on Us participant. Bank of America/Merrill Lynch customers receive free admission during the first full weekend (Saturday and Sunday) of every month.*
