The annual Veterans Day program at Veterans Park will feature a keynote speech by Joe Galloway, one of America’s premiere war correspondents and co-author of the international bestseller We Were Soldiers Once… And Young, which was adapted into the acclaimed movie We Were Soldiers. Galloway, a Bronze Star for Valor awardee who recently retired as the senior military correspondent for Knight Ridder Newspapers, is considered a storyteller par excellence of the theater of war.
Inside the atrium after the ceremony, there will be information for the Veterans History Project and Atlanta History Center membership as well as for the USO. Launched in 1999, the Veterans History Project has conducted 600 veteran interviews.
Admission to the program is free and open to the public. Active and retired military, veterans and up to five members of their families will receive free admission to the entire Atlanta History Center campus.
