Learn more about the history of a Confederate-owned Bible that made its way into Union hands during the Civil War.

The Bible originally belonged to Confederate Col. Robert W. Folsom with the Georgia 14th Infantry Regiment who died at the Battle of the Wilderness in Virginia. Taken as a war souvenir, the Bible ends up in the hands of Matthias Swan, a soldier with the 38th Regiment of the United States Colored Troops before eventually making its way back to Folsom’s family.
