The 1996 Games located several events in Athens, making use of University of Georgia facilities. Stegemen Coliseum was built in the early 1960s to replace an old 3,000 seat field house from the 1920s with a multi-purpose event and athletic facility that seated over 10,000. For the 1996 Games, it housed rhythmic gymnastics and indoor volleyball events.
