As Atlanta’s Olympic organizing committee was planning for the Games, many municipalities outside the city of Atlanta’s boundaries vied for their own pieces of the global event and ways to leverage the event for improvements to their resources and attractions. The city of Conyers made a deal with the organizers to be the site of an equestrian park.

Equestrian events for the Olympic Games by nature require a large amount of space. The host must accommodate various competition rings as well as stables and facilities for horses, riders, and trailers. The city of Conyers in partnership with the Olympic organizing committee planned Georgia International Horse Park, a venue of more than 1,000 acres to host equestrian competitions, as well as mountain biking, and portions of the pentathlon. The park is still in use today for premier equestrian events, as well as fairs, concerts, and locations for filming.
