Military History

The Kenan Research Center’s military history collections document the Civil War, particularly the Atlanta Campaign of 1864 and the experiences of Georgia soldiers involved in other theatres of battle. The Research Center holdings include over 350 collections of primary source material, including diaries, letters, military orders, and other material from Union and Confederate soldiers and officers, as well as civilians. The holdings also contain collections of individuals serving in the military during World War I and World War II. The Research Center’s oral history collection features over 600 interviews with veterans of foreign wars, including World War II, the Korean War, Vietnam, and the Gulf Wars.
