Explore the buildings and places that make Atlanta special! Through this tour children will gain a deeper understanding of how these sites reflect our city’s geography, innovation, and culture. Using visual arts and hands-on activities, children will discover how the city’s history influences their lives today and imagine their role in its future.
Standards Addressed
Pre-K
- CD-SS3: The child will demonstrate awareness of geography in his/her community.
- CD-CR2: The child will create and explore visual art forms to develop artistic expression.
Kindergarten
- SSKG2.c: Explain that maps and globes show features in a smaller size.
1st Grade
- SS1G2: Identify and locate the student’s city, county, state, nation (country), and continent on a simple map or a globe.
- SS1MG: The student will use maps to retrieve social studies information.
2nd Grade
- SS2G1: Locate and compare major topographical features of Georgia and describe how these features define Georgia’s surface.
- SS2H1: Describe the lives and contributions of historical figures in Georgia history.
