Students consider different aspects of the Civil War through interactive artifact and exhibit explorations.
One of the most popular tours Atlanta History Center offers is the immersive onsite tour, The Price of Freedom.
Explore our new More Perfect Union exhibit as part of this tour that examines different aspects of the Civil War. Through interactive experiences students learn about the personal stories of soldiers, as well as the effects of the war on the homefront, the risks enslaved people took to obtain freedom, and the role of Atlanta through interaction with artifacts.

All Guided School Tours are from 10am-12pm Monday-Friday*.
*If a school tour is booked on a Monday, please note that the museum is not open to the general public. Atlanta History Center will provide schools full access to the designated tour areas. However, additional spaces, exhibitions, historic homes, gardens, and the museum shop will be closed. The outdoor picnic areas are still available for groups that choose to have lunch onsite.
This tour aligns with Social Studies standards for 4th and 8th grade, as well as high school US History.

- Exploration of the life of a Civil War Soldier.
- Analysis of secession documents.
- Short museum theatre piece and follow-up discussion.
- Examination of the lives of enslaved people and the risks they took to secure their freedom.
Tour size is limited to 125 students.
There is no cost for students and the required number of chaperones for Title I schools.
Guided tours require one chaperone (admitted free) per 10 students.
A fee of $11.50 will be applied for each additional chaperone.

A non-refundable $50 deposit is due 14 days after confirmation is received.
Full payment is due 3 weeks prior to the date of your visit to guarantee your reservation for all tours. If you book less than 3 weeks in advance, full payment is due at the time of booking.
Any updates to your student count must be made before final payment is due. Refunds are not available if the number of students has changed. Additional fees for specialty tours, experiences, and other services are also due.
Your payment is not refundable if you cancel your school tour and do not reschedule.
To reschedule your tour, you must notify Atlanta History Center at least 3 days in advance of your tour date. Your payment can be applied towards your new date. There is a $25 administrative fee to reschedule your tour.
