An exploration of Cherokee culture and history
The country of the Cherokee people spread from Kentucky to the Carolinas, and all of North Georgia. Cherokee land was a major cornerstone of Cherokee identity. As white settlers encroached, the Cherokee did not waiver, but adapted to their constantly changing environment. We are Still Here explores the history of the Cherokee people and their contemporary culture.
We are Still Here is approximately 90 minutes experience in which students engage with the content through multiple learning styles, including oral histories, and hands-on archaeological exploration. Strolling through our outdoor campus: Swan Woods, and Wood Cabin, students will understand the challenges that the Cherokee people faced in the early 19th century, and how their values and practices have been preserved and are still utilized today.
