Tickets will be available at the door prior to the event start time. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nAn exploration of what it means to be human in a technological age. \n\n\n\nLike it or not\, tech is part of the air we breathe. New technologies are everywhere\, and they’re breathlessly marketed to us as good\, even while almost every sociological measure says we’re not doing well. Figuring out how to navigate–to use\, not to use\, how to use–new technologies has become an unavoidable part of twenty-first-century life.  \n\n\n\nIn Wired for Wonder\, writer and editor Aaron Cline Hanbury explores the massive and mundane ways technology shapes and reshapes our world. What does it mean to be human when AI can do more and more? Does technological advancement necessarily mean human progress? Where is our attention going\, and who is buying it? How should our faith inform our relationship to technology? Rather than offering a book of how-tos and tips\, Hanbury winsomely asks: How do we relate to the stuff we make?  \n\n\n\nThrough relatable\, regular-person dispatches from the intersections of technology\, faith\, and the everyday\, Wired for Wonder gives voice to those who wonder if this technocentric moment makes our world–and us–better or worse. By breaking open the unnecessary binary between tech optimists and luddites\, Hanbury suggests that wrestling with new things (technological or otherwise) is part of what it means to be human–and part of the Christian calling to tend to the earth.  \n\n\n\n Language provided by publisher. \n\n\n\n\n	\n \n About the Author\n\n \n \n	\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nAaron Cline Hanbury is a writer and editor whose essays and profiles have appeared in various publications\, including The Atlantic. He is the founding editor of the award-winning magazine Common Good\, and a past editor of RELEVANT magazine. He lives in the metro Atlanta area with his wife\, Hannah\, and their daughters.

In 2016\, he was promoted to serve as the Senior Vice President of External Affairs\, and in 2021 was named President of GPB\, directing all business functions for the company. In August 2023\, the Georgia Public Telecommunications Commission voted unanimously to appoint him as Chief Executive Officer of GPB.  \n\n\n\nFor the last decade\, Huffman has been GPB’s official spokesperson and is often seen across GPB’s platforms on television\, radio and the web. To GPB’s many viewers and listeners\, he is often simply known as “the GPB guy.”   \n\n\n\nPrior to joining GPB in 2014\, Huffman held top roles in development operations for arts and education institutions including\, most recently\, The Atlanta Opera and Emory University. He has used his experience in the arts and educational worlds to create a culture of philanthropy at GPB and elevated the organization’s foremost role to being a partner in the community that serves its viewers and listeners in ways that commercial broadcasting does not.  \n\n\n\nIn 2016\, Huffman was awarded the Public Radio Association of Development Officers Development Professional of the Year award. In 2017\, under his leadership\, GPB was honored with the PBS Development Special Achievement Award. Most recently\, Huffman was honored with the 2025 Alumni Community Impact Award as part of the 2025 Kennesaw State University Alumni Awards. He was named to Atlanta Magazine’s Atlanta 500\, a list of the city’s most powerful leaders\, in 2024 and 2025. Huffman was also named to Georgia Trend Magazine’s 2025  Georgia 500 list\, which recognizes the state’s most influential leaders.  \n\n\n\n\n Reserve Your Free Ticket

Until today. Birth rituals and coming-of-age rituals have plummeted; fewer than half of Americans are married; only one in three is buried. “It took us ten thousand years to establish cultural norms around how we mark collective life transitions\,” writes Bruce Feiler. “It took us fifty years to dismantle them.” Can this threat to society be reversed?  To find out\, Feiler went on a round-the-world ritual road trip\, attending—and participating in—life rituals in sixteen countries on six continents. These spectacles\, some rarely seen\, include a mass baptism in the Vatican\, a tribal bride price negotiation in South Africa\, an adolescent tooth filing in Bali\, six weddings in Las Vegas\, and ten funerals in Ireland.  Beyond the decline in traditional rituals\, Feiler discovered that we are in the midst of a ritual renaissance that is pushing back against apathy\, loneliness\, and digital saturation. Fed up with top-down scripts\, everyday people\, from boomers to Gen Z\, are reimagining collective rituals at a remarkable pace\, inventing fresh ways to gather around life\, love\, health\, and family—and forging thriving communities in the process.  As he did with Life Is in the Transitions\, Feiler also collected stories of a hundred ritual designers and built a first-of-its kind database of ideas to make gatherings more effective—from creating sacred space to mediating conflict to generating “wows” that guests will talk about forever.  From a master storyteller uncovering a thrilling phenomenon hiding in plain sight\, A Time to Gather is both a stirring adventure and practical manual. It’s a landmark guide to modern ritual; a tool kit for turning everyday moments into unforgettable celebrations; and an invitation to reconnect and rejoice—together.  \n\n\n\nLanguage provided by publisher. \n\n\n\nThe Sidney Isenberg Lectures have been established by his friends\, colleagues and family as an expression of love and appreciation for his values and commitment to the healing process and to the advancement of learning and growth – affirming his conviction that the human relationship is the agency through which change comes about. \n\n\n\n\n	\n \n About the Author\n\n \n \n	\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nBruce Feiler  is the author of seven New York Times bestsellers\, including Life Is in the Transitions\, The Secrets of Happy Families\, and Walking the Bible. From the onset of hostilities\, British authorities viewed their American foes as traitors to be punished\, and British abuse of American prisoners\, both tacitly condoned and at times officially sanctioned\, proliferated. Meanwhile\, more than seventeen thousand British and allied soldiers fell into American hands during the Revolution. For a fledgling nation that could barely afford to keep an army in the field\, the issue of how to manage prisoners of war was daunting.Captives of Liberty examines how America’s founding generation grappled with the problems posed by prisoners of war\, and how this influenced the wider social and political legacies of the Revolution. When the struggle began\, according to T. Cole Jones\, revolutionary leadership strove to conduct the war according to the prevailing European customs of military conduct\, which emphasized restricting violence to the battlefield and treating prisoners humanely. However\, this vision of restrained war did not last long. As the British denied customary protections to their American captives\, the revolutionary leadership wasted no time in capitalizing on the prisoners’ ordeals for propagandistic purposes. Enraged\, ordinary Americans began to demand vengeance\, and they viewed British soldiers and their German and Native American auxiliaries as appropriate targets. This cycle of violence spiraled out of control\, transforming the struggle for colonial independence into a revolutionary war. In illuminating this history\, Jones contends that the violence of the Revolutionary War had a profound impact on the character and consequences of the American Revolution. Captives of Liberty not only provides the first comprehensive analysis of revolutionary American treatment of enemy prisoners but also reveals the relationship between America’s political revolution and the war waged to secure it. \n\n\n\nLanguage provided by publisher. \n\n\n\n\n	\n \n About the Author\n\n \n \n	\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nT. As the United States marks 250 years as a nation\, this day invites us to reflect on a fuller story of freedom. \n\n\n\nFor generations\, Black Americans claimed and shaped their own paths to liberation through resilience\, resistance\, and community\, marking a period of Freedom Delayed. The Civil War and the actions of Black soldiers\, leaders\, and communities brought Freedom Declared\, culminating in the long-awaited arrival of emancipation news in Galveston\, Texas\, on June 19\, 1865.  \n\n\n\nIn the years that followed\, Atlanta became a center for education\, activism\, and progress\, embodying Freedom Organized through movements for civil rights and social change. Today\, we gather to experience Freedom Activated—honoring the enduring legacy of those who championed freedom while celebrating its ongoing impact. As you explore the activities and performances below\, we invite you to reflect\, connect\, and engage with these themes in meaningful and memorable ways.  \n\n\n\nJuneteenth is part of Atlanta History Center’s celebration of the Civic Season\, a nationwide initiative encouraging historically-informed civic participation through a two-week activation between Juneteenth and July 4th. \n\n\n\n\n View Activities\n\n \n \n\n\n\n\n \n \n Get Your Free Tickets \n \n Tickets\n \n \n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n The History of Juneteenth\n \n \n On June 19\, 1865\, a full two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation and two months after Union troops seized Richmond\, the capital of the Confederate States of America\, the last enslaved African Americans in Texas were declared free people. That momentous date in 1865 was proclaimed Juneteenth and has been celebrated annually since then.  \n \n Learn More\n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n Civic Season\n \n \n Juneteenth is part of Atlanta History Center’s celebration of the Civic Season\, a nationwide initiative encouraging historically-informed civic participation through a two-week activation between Juneteenth and July 4th. \n \n Learn More\n \n \n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n	\n \n Timed Activities\n\n \n \n	\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n The Enslaved People’s Garden Tour\n \n \n Join us for an exploration of pre-Civil War agriculture and nature as it relates to the lives of the enslaved in America’s Piedmont region. Books will be available for purchase at the event. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nNew York Times journalist Jesse Wegman tells the story of James Wilson\, a Founding Father whose bold vision shaped American democracy but whose legacy was lost to scandal. As a young lawyer\, James Wilson made a celebrated case for American independence in an essay that inspired the famous words “We hold these truths to be self-evident\, that all men are created equal.” He wrote the first draft of the Constitution and\, along with the more famous James Madison\, played perhaps the essential role in its ultimate creation.Wilson believed that the people are the ultimate source of all power. He argued successfully for a strong central government and a powerful presidency\, and fought unsuccessfully for a direct vote for the president and the Senate. Appointed as a justice to the first Supreme Court\, he was later brought down by reckless land speculation and died of malaria in the back room of a North Carolina tavern while hiding from his creditors.Instead of being remembered as one of the nation’s great political thinkers\, Wilson was virtually written out of history. But in The Lost Founder\, Wegman brings to life the most prescient of the earliest patriots and makes a convincing argument that scandal should not diminish the life and impact of a brilliant\, complicated man whose vision for his country could not be more relevant today. \n\n\n\n\n	\n \n About the\n\n Author\n \n \n	\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nJesse Wegman is a Senior Fellow at the Brennan Center for Justice\, where he writes about Supreme Court reform and constitutional amendments. From 2013 to 2025\, he was a member of the New York Times editorial board\, covering law and politics\, the Supreme Court\, democracy\, and electoral reforms. His first book\, Let the People Pick the President: The Case for Abolishing the Electoral College\, was published in 2020. \n\n\n\n\n	\n \n About the Moderator\n\n \n \n	\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nClaire Haley is Vice President of Special Projects for Atlanta History Center\, and a lifelong avid reader.
