  • Virtual Event

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, this event will be livestreamed so that we can experience this moment together, while staying physically apart. On November 11th at 11 AM, this page will be updated with livestreaming links to watch the ceremony on both Facebook and YouTube.

2020 marks the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II. As a special tribute to this important anniversary, Hilbert Margol, who served in the 42nd Infantry “Rainbow Division” in Europe during World War II, will lead the Pledge of Allegiance. Assisting Mr. Margol is his four-year-old great granddaughter, Harper. Atlanta History Center President & CEO Sheffield Hale, Director of Oral History and Genealogy and Veterans History Project director, Sue VerHoef, and Senior Military Historian, Dr. Gordon Jones, will give remarks. A key theme of this year’s ceremony is the importance of remembrance and the preservation of Veterans’ stories. Included during the ceremony is a special collage of Veterans History Project oral history recordings, curated by Sue VerHoef. Operatic tenor Timothy Miller will perform the National Anthem and God Bless America as a tribute to those who served and continue to serve, and the colors will be presented by Sandy Creek AFJROTC
