East Lake: Where Bobby Learned to Play takes the reader back in time to introduce Bobby Jones and Alexa Stirling, two homeschooled children who changed the world of golf forever. The older and more mature Alexa had a huge effect on Bobby. After you meet four of Bobby's other friends, readers learn about each hole of the modern Tour Championship course with them. Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, and Jordan Spieth join in on certain holes; and Tiger Woods makes a brief appearance in 2018.
Woven into the narrative are personal essays by Bobby’s law partners and others inspired by him, including a one-time visitor who wrote a mystery story about his round of golf. The beautifully illustrated book also tells the history of East Lake and emphasizes the transformative work of Tom Cousins in the neighborhood, which has become a model adopted by other cities.
