S is for Southern is an encyclopedia of Southern life, culture, and history, covering age-old traditions and current zeitgeists. David DiBenedetto is the Editor in Chief of Garden & Gun magazine and winner of the National Magazine Award for General Excellence in 2015. DiBenedetto grew up in Savannah, Georgia, and now resides in Charleston, South Carolina, with his wife, children, and Boykin spaniel.

John Huey, former Editor-in-Chief of Time Inc., is a native of Atlanta and a 1966 graduate of North Fulton High School, now the Atlanta International School. Huey resides in Charleston, South Carolina, and is the host of Garden & Gun’s Whole Hog podcast. 

Dr. Jessica B. Harris is an award-winning journalist and author of twelve critically acclaimed cookbooks documenting the foods and foodways of the African Diaspora. Harris hosts a monthly radio show on Heritage Radio Network, My Welcome Table, that focus on Food, Travel, Music, and Memoir. Dr. Harris is a founding member of the Southern Foodways Alliance.
