Traveling History Trunks

Travel trunks are available for monthly rental ($100/month), and are designed to assist teachers in highlighting various chapters in our nation’s history. Each trunk includes a teacher’s guide and a selection of hands-on materials.

Presidents
Host a Teddy Roosevelt-themed talk show or stage a costumed debate to decide which president deserves the title “Best U.S. President in History.” Trunk contents are designed around interactive activities that make it easy for teachers to plan and students to learn. Presidents highlighted include: Washington, Lincoln, Jackson, T. Roosevelt, F. Roosevelt, L. Johnson, and Carter.

Native Lands
Discover Native American life through reproduction projectile points, a bow drill, music, maps, pottery, and baskets from Southeastern Indians.

Colonial Life

Put on a vest or an apron and imagine life as a Colonial child. Trunk includes music, a collection of reproduction domestic items, quill pens, and Colonial flags and documents.

Georgia Pioneers
Explore the lives of Georgia’s settlers with shawls and shirts, a wash basin, copies of 19th-century school books, slates, and toys. Kit includes textile crafts.

Civil War
March back in time with a collection of soldier and civilian clothing, equipment and first-person documents. Hardtack and haversacks are included to bring this era to life.

Westward Expansion
Travel west with Lewis and Clark and the transcontinental railroad. Trunk includes books, posters, audio-visuals, and hands-on materials, including a buffalo skin and gold pan.

World War I and the 1920s
Recruitment posters, newspaper headlines and a soldier’s diary illustrate life “over there.” After the war, look at changes on the home front as women get the vote.

World War II
Military and civilian experiences are presented in magazines, music, and posters. Make a timeline, hear a radio broadcast, and try on soldier gear.

Civil War to Civil Rights
Primary sources illuminate the struggle for civil rights in Atlanta’s African American community. Trunk includes materials for presentations and age appropriate books.
