The Power of the Press: History of the Atlanta Daily World

Power of the Press delves into the long tradition of African American journalism in the United States and investigates the significance of the Atlanta Daily World, America’s first successful African American daily newspaper, as a key component in the fight for civil rights.

Newspapers like the Atlanta Daily World played a crucial role in shattering racial prejudices presented in the mainstream press. Founded by W.A. Scott II in 1928, The Atlanta Daily World provided a medium for African American expression and broadened the horizon of what was possible for the community. Power of the Press: The History of the Atlanta Daily World honors the courageous work of journalists who helped educate, inspire hope in, and lift the spirits of the local African American community.

This exhibition is currently on loan to the Teaching Museum South.
