Costume and Fashion in Gone With the Wind
On display until January 31, 2010 To commemorate the 70th anniversary of Atlanta’s worldwide premiere of one of Hollywood’s most beloved films, the Atlanta History Center has installed a new display called Costume and Fashion in Gone With the Wind. The installation features seven of Walter Plunkett’s costume sketches for the film and a woman’s Rhett Butler coat (“an exclusive Gone With the Wind M.G.M. Fashion”) from the institution’s collections, along with a version of the famous green drapery dress on loan from the collection of John LeBold. For the full Gone With the Wind experience, the Margaret Mitchell House, located just five miles from the Atlanta History Center, is a must-see destination. In July 2009, the Margaret Mitchell House debuted a new visitor experience featuring guided tours of the apartment where Margaret Mitchell wrote Gone With the Wind, a Gone With the Wind movie exhibition, an exhibition showcasing the life and times of one of America’s most famous authors, and the Margaret Mitchell House gift shop. Visitors can purchase a dual pass (valid for up to nine days from date of purchase) to the Atlanta History Center’s 33 acre Buckhead campus AND the Atlanta History Center’s Midtown campus, Margaret Mitchell House and save 25% on admission to these two attractions.
